Cubs Snorkelling

11th October 2006

On Wednesday 11th October 06, 17 Cubs from the 11th North Leeds Cub Scout group came with their leaders to the International Pool to try snorkelling with LUUSAC. Most of the 8-12 year olds, who are currently trying a number of different watersports in the Leeds area, had never tried snorkelling before. This was a great chance for them to get a taste of the underwater world, and a chance for LUUSAC to put their skills to good use outside the Club.

Over 2 half-hour sessions, the Cubs were introduced to the snorkelling equipment, then taught to breath with their head under the water, clear water from a snorkel, swim using fins, and finally to duck dive. They then had time to practice what they had learnt by duck diving to the bottom of the pool, swimming through underwater hoops, and making friends with Nemo, LUUSAC's tamed toy clown fish. They also got to watch a live Octopush match that was being played at the end of the pool between Leeds Beavers B and Batley.

Afterwards, one of the Cub's leader said that they had been looking forwards to this all week, and we had delivered to their expectations and then some. The LUUSAC instructors also enjoyed themselves, and welcomed the opportunity to teach in a way that was new and challenging.

Thank you to Leeds BSAC 115 for the discounted rate at the pool, the International Pool for the use of their pool fins, and all the instructors that gave up their time to take part.
